Construction of distributor road 3km in total incorporating 6 nr. roundabouts and extensive road tie-ins linking the R113 and R115 roads. Approximately 2km of the road was new road construction through green field sites with steep contours resulting in almost 100,000m3 of earthworks movement in topsoil, subsoil and rock and extensive retaining wall structures from 2.0m – 5.5m high. The remaining 1km was the widening, realignment and reconstruction of the existing R113 and R115 roads. Other works also involved the installation of approx. 2.5km of the new Boherboy Watermain, public lighting ducting and lamp standards, utility body ducting, footpaths, cycle paths, grass verges new surface water drainage, landscaping, and boundary treatments in the form of blockwork walls and ornamental railings. Provision of road markings, signage, anti-skid surfaces and speed ramps.
Works required development of detailed Traffic Management Plan and its implementation during different stages of the road realignment. The traffic management measures took into consideration site specific conditions, nature of works and level / type of the road. The measures were designed to cause the least disruption to traffic flow without compromising health and safety of all involved. The impact of the measures was carried out in liaison with the Client, Local Authority, Utility Bodies and Local Residents at all times.
